Route Information

First climbed by a Basque team in 1994. The 4000 meter long Basque route (also known as the 'Cesen route' or simply 'SSE Ridge') follows a spur  on the right side of K2's South face. The spur leads to the shoulder at 7800m, where it joins the standard Abruzzi Spur route. Technically maybe slightly more demanding than the Abruzzi but safer in the right snow conditions. If avalanche hazards are high the team may decide to switch to the Abruzzi.

Schedule

May 18th - Aug 14th (tentatively)

The team converges in Islamabad May18th. A couple of days of handling permit requirements and last minute logistics are followed by a 24-48hr bus journey to Skardu. It's then a day or two to prepare the  FJ40 4x4 convoy to Askole. Askole marks the trailhead where with a large amount of hardy local Hunza porters the team begins their week long trek into K2's base. This will be their home from June 1st to the first week of August with plenty of climbing in between...Inshall 'Allah
